My Paw-Tastic Weekend!

Hello Fellow Canines, Hope ya'll had a fun weekend. I got to hang out with one of my best canine friends, Gingy, on Friday and Saturday afternoon. She's a red vizsla/hound mix who comes to my daycare and also boards at the spa. My mom took us on a nice walk around Inman Park on Saturday morning. Then Gingy's dad came to get her on Saturday night and I got to watch the 2008 Puppy Games on Animal Planet. It was great! They had soccer, balance beam, boxing & swimming competitions. The puppies were so cute and really athletic. One of my favorite events was watching Zen, a boston terrier puppy take the Gold in balance beam. The water cam was cool too! Have a wonderful week. I'm always here to lend a paw. Woof Woof, Boomer the beagle

Rory's Awesome Party

Hey guys! I got to go to the greatest party on Saturday! It was for my buddy Rory, and BOY was it fun! It was Alice in Wonderland themed, and Rory wore the same outfit Alice wore to the Queen's tea party! AND she had on the prettiest strand of pearls! I got to dress up like the rabbit, even with a pocketwatch! We had races, played musical chairs (I sat right in the middle of my doilie!), had cake, and a big pinata that was FULL of tennis balls! It was SO much fun! Wish everyone could have been there!
Love, Boomer

Anyone can help - anywhere!

On the way to a trek up Mt. Sinai in Egypt with friends, I saw a mother with her stray puppies living in a delapidated gas station parking lot. The pups were having trouble trying to nurse from their mother, so we had our taxi pull over and gave the mother sesame sticks for some type of nourishment, and filled a box with water for the family. Small moments like this make every moment and gesture worthwhile!
In all of our own struggles - don't forget that someone out there is less fortunate than you, and how small gestures can make a world of difference to animals (and okay - people, too) in need!

Another Puppy Mill Being Shut Down!

As a long time member and supporter of the Humane Society of the United States, I am thrilled to learn about each new "puppy mill" that is being shut down!!! HSUS recently reported that an individual who labeled himself a breeder was bought out by the Wisconsin Humane Society - the first deal of its kind! The mass breeding operation, called Puppy Haven, sat on 19 acres amongst Amish farms (i.e. "unnoticeable"), full of hundreds of pens made up of gravel and metal fencing. Dogs were kept 5 and 6 to a pen with little to no interaction. The former owner felt that his business was mislabeled as a "puppy mill", and felt that being outdoors and having access to food and water was humane enough, with little regard to their lack of proper excercise and interaction, over-breeding and blatant neglect.
Conditions in puppy mills can be, and are, much worse than those at this facility. But every closure is progress for all of our helpless canine friends! The Wisconsin Humane Society is moving these dogs in groups into their shelter, and they are being adopted within days. The publicity associated with puppy mill closures raises adoption rates, but don't forget - there are dogs in shelters EVERY day! Some came from worse conditions than any mill, and each and every one needs a loving and caring home.
Wisconsin Humane made a huge, meaningful gesture by purchasing this mill in order to shut it down. If they can raise the funding and time to take such a huge step, think of all that each and every one of us can do to help, too!
Let's hear it for the Wisconsin Humane Society, and all of its supporters and staff! Thanks for helping these dogs find a better, brighter future - full of love and hope, and free from isolation and neglect!!!
